Services

FULL SERVICE
What we do: (refer to the service options on our brochure)
Why we do it: We recommend a lube service every 10,000 or 15,000 kms or 12 months whichever comes first. Oil degrades over time and with use, once it degrades, parts become worn leading to premature failure of the engine. Our 40 point check is the most comprehensive available and ensures all important mechanical items are checked. If we find any items requiring attention we inform you and on your authority only, carry out the repairs as needed.

SERVICE CHECK
What we do: (refer to our service options on our brochure)
Why we do it: an interim check between services of the important  items.

Oil and Filter Change (refer service brochure)
Why we do it: Oil degrades over time and with use, once it degrades parts become worn leading to premature failure of the engine.  Note that short running is more detrimental than longer trips as contaminants do not get burnt off. (We highly recommend a Regular service every 10,000kms or twelve months, which ever comes first.)

WOF INSPECTIONS
INSPECT & OBTAIN WOF, or a list of items requiring attention, before WOF can be issued. We can then carry out the repairs (after obtaining you the customer permission).
Why we do it: A WOF is required by law every 6 months – or every 12 months for the first six years of the vehicles life. (Changed as of  01/01/2014)

Maintenance Tune
What we do: (mainly for older vehicles) Check and replace spark plugs if required, check and replace points and condenser if required. Check and set ignition timing, check and replace air and fuel filters as required. Check and clean throttle body as required. NOTE: parts are at extra cost. POA

MANUAL TRANSMISSION SERVICE OIL CHANGE
What we do: Drain the old gearbox oil, refill with the correct oil grade.
Why we do it: Oil degrades over time which can lead to premature failure of mechanical parts.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION & CVT FLUID CHANGES
What we do: Connect transmission to flush machine, add a flushing additive which will clean the sludge and varnish deposits from the transmission internals, cooler and converter. Remove all the old fluid and replace with new fluid, add conditioners to extend fluid and component life. We recommend this service every 50,000km, more often if towing a heavy trailer often.
Why we do it: Over time automatic transmission fluid degenerates and degrades, 90% of automatic transmission failures are due to overheating and fluid contamination. Extends transmission life, smooth rough or hard shifting problems, helps revitalize oil seals and ‘O’ rings.

COOLANT / RADIATOR FLUSHES
What we do:  Drain and reverse flush all the old coolant from the radiator, engine and heater. Clean the header tank, refill the system with the correct mix of antifreeze/ rust inhibitor. Run the engine to operating temperature, bleed all air from the system, ensure correct fan operation and check for leaks.
Why we do it: Modern engines are made of various metals which will react with each other causing corrosion.  To neutralize this reaction we add corrosion inhibitors which also act as antifreeze protection in frosty weather. We recommend  a coolant change every 2-3 years. (note we check the coolant condition at each service)

BRAKE FLUID CHANGES
What we do: Vacuum bleed all the old brake fluid from the reservoir and brake lines at each wheel, replace the old fluid with new Dot4 brake fluid and retest the brakes.
Why we do it: Brake fluid absorbs moisture and impurities over time. This acts to lower the boiling point of the fluid, causing premature brake fade and ultimately failure. The moisture also causes corrosion and rusting of the internal brake components, which eventually if left will result in major repair bills.

BRAKE CHECKS
What we do: Remove all wheels, inspect the condition and wear of brake pads and shoes and wheel cylinders for fluid leaks. Clean and adjust shoes and handbrake travel where applicable.
Why we do it: Brake pads and shoes wear with each brake application.  Fluid seals can leak, causing reduction in performance and contamination of the brake shoes.  By checking regularly we can avoid expensive repairs to the brake rotors and drums. We recommend a brake check every 20,000kms.

FUEL SYSTEM TUNE SERVICES
What we do: Access the throttle body, inject an additive into the throttle body which will clean intake valves, combustion chamber ,Inlet manifold, Throttle plate and Exhaust valves.
Why we do it: Dirt, varnish build up corrosion and carbon deposits restrict the airflow and fuel to the combustion chamber. These are a result of fuel combustion and happen with all fuel injected vehicles, creating the following symptoms: poor fuel economy, hard starting, rough idling, hesitation, knocking, loss of power, increased emissions, a need for higher octane fuel. A fuel system tune service is designed to completely clean the entire fuel system.

CAMBELT REPLACEMENTS
What we do: remove the old cam belt, drive belts (i.e. alternator, air conditioner, power steering) tensioners, idlers, oil seals and water pump. Replace these as required and refit all covers and associated components. Recheck the ignition timing and road test.
Why we do it: Most modern engines have a cam belt. They drive the valves from the crankshaft. If they fail they can cause major damage to the engine.  Most engines are what is known as ‘interference engine’ which means there is no clearance between valves and pistons if the two get out of time, i.e. if they touch, the valves will be bent, resulting in the head having to be removed, valves replaced etc. as a minimum. The engine will stop immediately.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT
What we do: Road test vehicle to check for any steering or suspension problems. Connect all four wheels to our computerized wheel alignment machine, inspect all steering and suspension related items to identify any parts, adjust toe camber and castor settings to manufactures specifications. Road test to ensure vehicle steers correctly.
Why we do it: to reduce tyre wear, improper alignment is a major cause of premature tyre wear. Better fuel economy, fuel economy increases as rolling resistance decreases. Improved handling – many handling problems can be corrected by a wheel alignment. Safer driving, a suspension system inspection is part of our alignment procedure, this allows us to identify worn parts before they cause costly problems. Our suspension specialist Sam has suspension and wheel alignment experience performing wheel alignments and is a qualified mechanic giving him the advantage of understanding the intricacies of suspension workings. We perform alignments and suspension tuning for motor sport vehicles e.g.  Professional Drift car ,Race track car suspension setups and are a preferred specialists for a number of collision repair businesses in town.

SUSPENSION REPAIRS
What we do:  As a SHOCK SHOP franchise we have access to all suspension parts and expertise and are specialist Monroe Shock absorber dealers. We can test your shock absorbers FREE with our computerised SHOCK TESTER. (Conditions apply)  Carry out all repairs from minor bushes to major suspension replacement ,i.e., Full suspension Lowering kits , 4WD lift kits.
Why we do it: Usually as a result of wear and tear or accident damage. Our suspension Technician, Sam has 14 years experience in suspension, steering and wheel Alignment.

WHEEL BALANCES
What we do: Remove the wheels from the vehicle, fit the wheel to our computerised wheel balancer and add weights to compensate for any imbalance.
Why we do it: Out of balance wheels cause a shimmy, usually at 90-100kph

PUNCTURE REPAIRS
What we do: Remove the wheel from the vehicle, remove the tyre from the rim, inspect the tyre inside and out for damage, repair the damage using approved vulcanized patches, refit the tyre, balance the wheel and refit to the vehicle.
Why we do it: Under inflated tyres can cause drastic instability in the vehicles handling. Under inflation caused by a leak will cause a tyre to overheat causing irreparable damage to the tyre resulting in the tyre having to be replaced.

BRAKE REPAIRS
What we do: We can repair any brake fault from replacing brake pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinders, rotors (we also do on car rotor machining).
Why we do it: As brake pads and shoes wear, they require periodic replacement. Components often deteriorate, especially if they have not been serviced regularly or brake fluid has not been changed as required.

CV JOINTS / BOOT REPLACEMENT
What we do: Test the CV joints to ascertain whether the CV joint is damaged. Remove wheels and hubs, replace either the CV boot and or the CV joint as required – inspect the other.
Why we do it: If the vehicle is serviced regularly, CV joint replacement can usually be avoided, we inspect the CV boot condition at each service and if the boot is replaced before, the grease gets thrown out of the joint and water and dirt does not get into the joint and destroy the bearings, joint replacement is avoided.
